This week we’re having a quick tête-à-tête with Mayen who is one of the latest faces to join the Trading College team in 2020. Following a distinguished career in NHS consultancy, Mayen started on our Pro-Trader Programme back in March 2019 and also attended several of our Learn To Trade Live classroom courses before upgrading to our Mentorship Programme in November of that year.
Mayen has now completed her studies for qualification with the Society of Technical Analysts (STA), one of the largest and most respected accreditors of the investment industry, and has already started helping our students’ learning through several virtual webinars she has conducted throughout the winter. Let’s hear from Mayen, in her own words, about the reasonings for this new chapter of her life and her initial struggles with this change of career…
Mayen’s Trading Journey
I started trading because I wanted freedom in life. I wanted the freedom to do what I want, when and how I want to.
The Mentorship Programme at Trading College was an eye opener. It showed me that anybody can learn to trade if they are properly taught by people that know what they are doing.
In the early days of my trading journey I had doubts about my ability to trade. It seemed an insurmountable task but the very structured way in which the learning material was delivered, and the sheer skill with which my coaches, Greg and Raj, worked with me to formulate a personalised learning path, tailored to my individual needs, meant that I acquired the skills I needed and enjoyed the journey as well.
Once I got my head round the mindset issues of trading, I was able to function with ease. I discovered that the discipline and calculated risk-taking associated with trading played well to my strengths.
Learning to trade has certainly brought flexibility to my life. It has given me options I would not ordinarily have had access to.
All in all, the experience has been life changing. More than anything else, it has provided a means for me to continue to support my chosen charities in perpetuity.
